Today in class I studied the way that the Nils Abden Opliv director of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" framed various shots, for example the opening of the film has an extreme close-up of a man's hands opening a parcel made of paper at a side view. After that there was a shot, which followed a person from behind. We also looked at these type of shots in the film 'Knight and Day'. In looking at these shots, we can use them in our film opening as they create a mysterious effect for the viewer. Effective shots like these are important to include in my project, as they will be intriguing for the viewers.
Tuesday 4th October
Today I created a blog, which will help me record all of my research and work I do this work online. I have linked up to the blogs made by my classmates and friends. It will be helpful, as I will be able to link up with my classmates, even when I am not at school with them. I will be able to see their planning and research online and may teacher will check my blog several times a week. My blog will be used as a database for my progress in my year 11 coursework. This is important, so the examiner can look at my progress and see it as evidence that I did the work myself.
Monday 10th October
Today in class we looked at 'The Blair Witch Project' movie, which gave us some inspiration and ideas for our production. From the movie we want to use the general theme of the film and the 'hand held' camera effect. This camera effect will be used to create feelings of unease and realism, as point of view shots suggest strong realism.
Tuesday 11th October
Today we created a treatment for our new idea:
5 teenagers are returning from a journey at night. They were messing around in the park and have just got back. They climb over the fence, and look over at the playground. A dark figure appears to be on the swings. The boys look at it for a while. One of the boys go over to the figure. About 10 meters from the figure it moves, the boy stumbles falls over in fright and the boys start to run away. After about 30 seconds of running the boy holding the camera appears to fall over. After this the scene cuts to the camera on the floor the next morning. The boy holding the camera is missing. The boys debate whether or not to go looking for their friend. In the end they agree, and the opening ends with them climbing back over the fence.
This is the treatment that we hope to go through with.
Monday 17th October
Today I will be creating my call sheet for the second scene. I am taking responsibility for call sheet 2.

Wednesday 19th October
Today I looked at the opening of the film 'Halloween', which will help us create our opening because it will give us inspiration. Being a horror film this opening links in well with the horror theme of our film opening. The title sequence is very repetitive in the opening of this film, which we are not going to copy in our title sequence. The font and background show appropriate black and orange colours, which are trademark for the Halloween holiday. The use of ever growing pumpkins are also used well, which also link in well with the holiday of Halloween. This opening sequence definatly gives a 'spooky' effect, which links well to the horror genre and I hope to do in my title sequence.
I have also looked at the opening of 'Zombieland' which is also in the horror genre, but ties into comedy as well. The opening sequence of this movie uses frequent slow motion, which is effective, because it allows the viewers more time to analyse and see the effects which are used in the title sequence.
The use of 3D text gives the sequence a modern feel, which is something that I do not want to do in my title sequence. However the effects and camera angles used in this films opening title sequence fit in well with the genre and feel to this film.
For my final sequence I chose 'Dawn of the Dead', which is apparently one of the scariest movies of all time. This was a perfect movie opening sequence to use for stuff to use in the one I am making. This opening contains much more action than the previous 2 that I have chosen. All though my title sequence is not going to include much action, I still think that this was a very good title sequence to look at and observe. For example the use of red font on the black background contrasts well, and fits in well with the horror genre of movie.
Thursday 10th November
Today we discussed about possible horror conventions we could put into our idea. One idea I had brought up a while back was brought back up today. The idea was "False alarms" and the idea that was suggested was to have someone where a person is wearing some kind of horror mask which is then actually revealed to be a mask and presents no threat. I thought we could have a false alarm in it somewhere, maybe not that specific one but the rest of the group decided that it's too late to go chaning what we've already got. So we're sticking with the one we've got and will expand on that base idea.
I also looked at some camera angles from other horror films and we'll choose which ones we might use aswell or not. Here are some of the ones we're thinking of using:
Close-up -This will emphasis effect
Extreme close-up - This will make the audience see and react to key objects and scenes
Establishing shot - This will be used to set the scene. We will use this at the beginning of our title sequence
Low angle shot - This will be used to emphasis things and make them look forbidding
Dutch tilt shot.- This can give a sense of unease within the audience
Tracking shot - This will give a sense of realism
Hand held - This will add a sense of realism
Long shot - This can fit multiple objects in at a time, which gives more information to the audience
Monday 14th November:
Today we started to look at the effects which we could use in the film opening. We are looking at sound effects for the final piece and we are also looking at what effects we can use on the girl on the swing. We are looking at skin and eye colour and transparency. We also want to put mist into the shots after we have filmed. For these effects we will use in Adobe After Effects. We are also going over the storyboard and title sequence in pen, ready for scanning. We hope to start filming on this Friday (18/11/2011)
Tuesday 15th November:
Today our storyboard was finished and scanned into our computers. It is shown below:
The title sequence was also scanned. It also is shown below:
We also got an image of what we aim for the girl to look like:
Thursday 1st December
Today we started our filming. We went in the lesson and made some shots which we hope to use in our final film opening. The list of people were:
Aidan Marshall - Steve
Sophie Scott - Zoe
Matt Hart - Camera man
We are going to do more filming, which was postponed because some of the actors were unavailable at the time. We will do the rest of the filming on Tuesday 6th December.
Sunday 11th December
Today I took the template for the evaluation Power Point and filled in the gaps to evaluate the project as a whole.
Monday 9th January
Today we decided to make both the distribution company and the production company idents, in order to gain more marks in our project. We also put our filmed footage onto the apple mac and began to edit our material.
Thursday 12th January
Today I looked at possible soundtracks that could be used in our film opening. One has been found, which will hopefully reflect well with the horror genre of our film opening. I think this piece is very relevant because it has a 'lonely' sound to it, almost as if nature is calling for a friend, which is like the events in our film opening.
Tuesday 17th January
Today I looked at numerous sound tracks, and narrowed them down to ten which will be looked at to use in our film opening.
Thursday 26th January
Today I looked at the outline the target audience for the film Banshee:

Character Profile:
The character that I will be profiling and playing is the classic ‘in over his head’ character. He is very arrogant, and never misses the chance to show off, especially when there are girls around him. He always wears jeans and some designer t-shirt. He will wear his hair in a stylish fashion and will walk with an over confident manner. He will also try to act the hero whenever possible. He likes to show off his talent at sports.
